Hi, I’m Spencer Boomhower, and this is the site of my company, RocketTree LLC. I do freelance art primarily for games, and I’m based here in beautiful Portland, Oregon.
Working for a variety of small companies and freelance clients has led me to pick up quite a diverse set of art skills. Basically whatever it takes to a game looking great, and ready to ship.
My main focus is on modeling and texturing organic characters and environments. Bringing those characters and environments to life in games has led me to do some animation and level design as well.
Occasionally I branch out from game art and use computer graphics to discuss issues related to transportation and livability. These topics are are a big part of what make Portland a great place to live, and are important to me personally. So it’s gratifying to see this work becoming part of the local conversation, whether it’s making visible an The Common Sense Alternative to a giant freeway project, showing people how new bicycle law or infrastructure works, or showing bicycle riders how to keep from wiping out on streetcar tracks.
The feedback I’ve received from clients and coworkers is that I do good work, I’m dependable, and I’m easy to work with. My background is in traditional art, but I’m happy to take on technical challenges, which makes it relatively easy for me to establish a rapport with people working in more technical fields. Very helpful when working on games!
